This morning, the Vernon Police Department and Vernon ISD welcomed Autumn Thames to their staffs. Autumn will hold the rank of lieutenant with the Vernon PD and will serve as VISD's Director of School Safety and Security, as well as be the School Resource Officer at McCord Elementary. Interim Supt. Dr. Blaise Boswell explained this is a newly-established position and reflects VISD's and Vernon PD's collaborative commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors.


The nomination window for our Vernon ISD Gifted and Talented Program is now open. The deadline to nominate a student is Monday, Jan. 19. Parents, teachers and others in the community can nominate students. Nominations will only be accepted via a Google Form you can access by scanning the QR code below, or by following this link: https://bit.ly/VISD-GTProgram
Parents/guardians will have two opportunities to attend an informational meeting on our GT program. Both meetings will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, the first will be held at 1 p.m., at the VISD Boardroom, and the second will be held at 6 p.m., at the VHS Media Center.

Our VES Spring Art Project involves using old CD and DVD discs. If you happen to have any you would like to donate to the project, please contact the VES Office or drop them by the school office. We just need the discs only.

When the dismissal bell rings today and our students leave our campuses, Vernon ISD will officially be on its Christmas Break. VISD staff will return and normal office hours will resume on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, while we will welcome our students back to the classroom on Wednesday, Jan. 7. We hope all of our VISD students and their families, along with all of our VISD family, has a wonderful Christmas Break.

After the 3rd graders completed their performance, our 2nd grade students joined them on the stage to close out the VES 2nd & 3rd Grade Christmas Program by singing three songs together. The students sounded wonderful.
