Receiving our VES Students of the Week honor for the week before our Thanksgiving Break are: 2nd Grade -- K'Siyah Guerra; 3rd Grade -- Addyson Allen; 4th Grade -- Addyson Boyd; and 5th Grade -- April Luna. Great job!! Congratulations!! Keep it up!

To help our VES staff make sure your child knows when there is an after-school transportation change from their regular routine, please let the office know of that change no later than 3:15 p.m., the day of that transportation change Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

This is the time of the year to take a moment to reflect on all we have to be thankful for, and Vernon ISD would like to wish all the members of our VISD family, and our students and their families a Happy Thanksgiving. The district appreciates and is thankful for each and every one of you.

Here is some information on safe firearm storage. School districts across the State of Texas are now required (House Bill 121) to distribute information regarding safe firearm storage at least three times each school year. We hope everyone follows firearm safety measures and stores their firearm in a secure location.

Vernon ISD will be closed Nov. 24 thru Nov. 30 for our Thanksgiving Break. Classes will resume and offices will reopen Monday, Dec. 1, on their regular schedules. We hope all of our students and their families, along with our VISD family enjoys their Thanksgiving Break.

All VISD campuses will be operating on an Early Release Schedule tomorrow due to the Lions' Area Playoff Game being played in Canyon.

Our VES Art program is in search of old CDs & DVDs to use for a recycle art project the students will be working on in the Spring semester. Those wishing to donate old CDs or DVDs to the project may bring their old discs to the VES Office. Please do not bring the cases; they are not needed for the art project.

Vernon is the visiting team and will sit on the East side of Happy State Bank Stadium. No signs are allowed on the rails of the stands. Also, NO fans are allowed on the field following the game.

Our VES Student Council Fundraiser concludes Thursday. The Student Council is selling feathers for .25 cents, with the two homerooms in each grade that have the most feathers on their turkey getting a chance to compete in the Turkey Bowl that will be held Friday morning. The money raised from the fundraiser will be used to fill the wish list of as many stars from the local Star Tree as possible. Anyone can make a donation toward the fundraiser. Donations may be turned in at the VES Office. Thursday is the deadline to donate to the project.

These students were honored as our VES Students of the Week for last week: 2nd Grade -- Elijah Grimes; 3rd Grade -- Alexander Romero-Rodriguez; 4th Grade -- Michael Ledesma; and 5th Grade -- Ellis Wilson. Congratulations!! Great job!!

Our Lions Spirit Pep Rally will be held Thursday morning as the players prepare for their Class 3A, D1 Area Playoff clash with Denver City. The dress up theme for the day is "Twin Day" as the theme for the pep rally is "Make the Mustangs See Double!" The pep rally will begin at 9:25 a.m., Thursday, at D.O. Fulton Gym.

Our Lions are moving on to the 2nd round of the Class 3A, D1 Playoffs!! They will meet Denver City in the Area Round. The game is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, at Happy State Bank Stadium in Canyon. Information on how to purchase tickets will be released later this week. Go Lions!!

Due to the distance to the game, VISD will operate on an Early Release schedule on Thursday. We will also have our regularly-scheduled Early Release on Friday that was on our 2025-26 School Year Calendar. Vernon will be the visiting team. Look for information on ticket details later this week.

Our 3rd grade students have been studying Rome and Romans, and today a few of our teachers and administrators stepped back in time and gave the 3rd Grade Hall a distinct Roman flavor.

This morning, Daughters of the Revolution Western Trails Chapter Regent Kim Jones presented a copy of the book "Texas: Before the Lone Star" to VES Principal Leslie Powell, Librarian Lisa Haas, and students Sawyer Reeder and Samuel Reeder. The DAR Western Trails Chapter donated the book to the school library. The book is a publication of the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
