During Monday night's board meeting Vernon ISD recognized our Teachers of the Year and Staff Members of the Year. Selected by their peers as Teachers of the Year were: Kristen Chavira, McCord Elementary; Kelli Coble, Vernon Elementary; Brady Parum, Middle School; Libbi Garnett, High School; and Shawn Gill, NTSH-AFP. Our Staff Members of the Year were: Sandra Edwards, McCord Elementary; Kathy Harlin, Vernon Elementary; Quinton Porter, Middle School; Hilda Moreno, High School; and Josie King, Wilbarger Shared Services Agreement. The district, along with the board of trustees, appreciate the hard work of these teachers and staff during this 2025-26 school year.
Order your school water bottle today and show that Vernon spirit during the 2026-27 school year!! Vernon Elementary is currently selling water bottles with our logo on them. The water bottles come in three colors and two sizes, and your student's name can be imprinted on the bottle. UPDATE -- Anyone can order a water bottle. However, this is a fundraiser for the VES students, so you have to put the name of a VES student in the "Additional info" blank on the order form so that student will get credit for the sale. The VES students earn prizes based on how many bottles they are credited with selling. ALSO -- water bottles will not be here until mid-August. A date and times that bottles can be picked up at VES will be announced in August.

As we head into the final Six Weeks of the 2025-26 school year, we want to let everyone know Vernon ISD will be operating on our original school calendar, which means no school on May 4 & 11. Also please remember we will have an early release on May 13 for the Santa Rosa Rodeo Parade, and on May 21, the last day of school.
Vernon ISD is currently experiencing an outage with our phone system. We are actively working with our carrier to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and restore service. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

We have a lot of talented students here at VES and they're going to get the opportunity to shine on stage!! Our VES Talent Show hosted by our VES Student Council is scheduled for Friday, May 1, and it's time to begin our search for stars! The deadline for a student to turn in an audition entry form is this Friday -- April 17. Auditions will be held for 2nd and 3rd graders on Thursday, April 23, and for 4th and 5th graders on Friday, April 24. Those selected for the talent show will practice on April 28 (2nd & 3rd grade) and April 30 (4th & 5th grade) before performing on May 1.
On Friday, our wonderful assistant principals -- Mr. Boswell and Ms. King -- were surprised with their own special cakes in honor of National Assistant Principal Week. The cakes were just a small token to show how much everyone at VES appreciates them for all they do for our students and staff.
This week is National Assistant Principal Week and Vernon ISD has some outstanding assistant principal at our campuses!! All of them are a great asset to their principal, and the staff and students on their campuses. They consistently go the extra mile, and Vernon ISD would just like them to know their work is noticed and greatly appreciated!
VES had some special guests for lunch today, as the milkman and Moocules (think Hercules) from Oak Farms stopped by for all four lunch periods. The students received cow ear hats, and were quite surprised when Moocules made his entrance and walked around giving high fives. The milkman and Moocules were on hand to tell the students how important it is to drink milk and shared the health benefits milk provides, including helping build strong bones and muscles.
On Tuesday the VES PTO treated our teachers and staff to a Sweet & Savory Popcorn Bar! 🍿

We still have 6 weeks left of the school year, but it's never too early to start putting events on your summer schedule!!! The Champs Volleyball Camp will be held June 9-June 11 at D.O. Fulton Gym. The camp is open to incoming kindergartners thru incoming freshmen. There will be two camp sessions --incoming sixth thru ninth graders will be in one session, with incoming kindergartners to fifth graders in another session.
Receiving our Student of the Week honors for last week (March 30-April 3) are: 2nd Grade -- Tommy Teague; 3rd Grade -- Angela Simja; 4th Grade -- Leia Englishbee; and 5th Grade -- Blake Thatcher. Outstanding job!! Congrats!!

Vernon ISD is lucky to have an outstanding group of paraprofessionals working at all of our campuses, and today we would like to tell them how much we appreciate all they do for the district.
