Vernon ISD is operating on its Early Release schedule today so our students and employees can participate in and enjoy the Santa Rosa Rodeo Parade. Remember the parade starts at 3 p.m. and VISD will be handing out free popcorn starting at 1:30 p.m. in front of the Vernon ISD Administration Building!!

Last week Mary Latimer, a former pilot, flight trainer, and air traffic controller was a guest speaker in some of our 2nd grade classes, and she is returning this week to speak to the other 2nd grade classes. This was a great time for Mrs. Latimer to visit our 2nd grade classes, as students are currently in the middle of studying a unit on aviation.

Today’s meal included spaghetti, fresh salad, drinks, and dessert, and it was truly appreciated by everyone. Our VES fifth graders had fun today in the Egg Drop Challenge. Students had to design a container that would keep an egg from breaking when dropped from various heights. Take a look.

On the Vernon ISD 2025-26 school calendar May 4 is an inclement weather day, however we do not need to use the day to make up time missed, so all campuses and offices will be closed on Monday. We will resume our regular schedules at all campuses and offices on Tuesday, May 5. We hope all of our students, their families and our staff enjoy their 3-day weekend.

We sent our VES All-Stars off in style this morning, as classmates lined the hallway to cheer and give high-fives as the all-star athletes loaded the bus for their to Altus to compete in the All-Star Olympics. All-star student/athletes from across the district competed in the All-Star Olympics. A special thanks to the City of Vernon and Vernon residents, who gave them a send-off down Wilbarger and Main this morning.




May 1st is School Principals' Day and Vernon ISD is blessed to have some amazing educators leading our campuses. We can't thank them enough for all they do for the students and teachers they are responsible for at their individual campuses.

Today is School Lunch Hero Day as we celebrate our outstanding food service workers. Vernon ISD has some amazing cafeteria ladies who work hard to provide our students with a good breakfast and lunch. Sometimes these ladies make a bigger impact on our students than they will ever know. We just want to give a big THANK YOU to our wonderful food service workers.

Earning our VES Student of the Week honors for last week (April 20-24) were: 2nd Grade -- Scarlett Tate; 3rd Grade -- Kyzer Sanders; 4th Grade -- Brianna Monjaras; and 5th Grade -- Lucia Hamer. Congratulations!! Keep up the great work!!

Next week (May 4-8) is Teacher Appreciation Week and Vernon High School is making it a dress up week as a way students can show appreciation for their teachers and have a little fun. The district liked the idea so much we decided to share it with all campuses in case some of their students wanted to join in on the fun. We have some amazing teachers at all of campuses, and each one of them is very much appreciated for all they do for our students.

Just a few more scenes from the Vernon ISD All-Star Olympics that was held Friday. Students from Vernon, Crowell and Quanah ISDs participated in the fun event. Several VHS and VMS athletes acted as buddies for the contestants. A big THANK YOU to the Vernon Boys & Girls Club for hosting the event again this year.
