
Vernon ISD has once again qualified to operate the Community Eligibility Program under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the new school year. Schools who qualify serve breakfast and lunch to all students at no charge.


Our VHS cheerleaders have set the themes for our football pep rallies, and have an entire week of activities planned for Homecoming. Our cheerleaders encourage all campuses to participate so we can show our Lion Spirit throughout the district.



Our Lions play their first scrimmage this week, which means we're getting closer and closer to the 2024 season opener on Aug. 30. Here's the 2024 football schedule and note some "Special Nights":
-- Sept. 6 is Homecoming
-- Oct. 4 is Michael Jackson night with a special halftime dance routine
-- Oct. 25 is Elementary Dance Night
-- Nov. 8 is Senior Night


There was madness at Leo Brittain Field at LIon Stadium Friday night as the Lions held a Midnight Madness practice to wrap up their first week of two-a-days. This coming Friday the Lions will finally get to square off against someone not wearing maroon and white, as they face Lamesa in their first scrimmage of the year. The scrimmage will be played in Abilene. Vernon's second scrimmage is Thursday, Aug. 22, in Holliday, and the Lions open the regular season Friday, Aug. 30, taking on the Bulldogs in Burkburnett.








The Lions picked up four victories in dual matches over the weekend. On Friday, the Lions played at home and defeated Borger and Pampa. They were on the road Saturday and dropped Lubbock Cooper Liberty and Shallowater.






Vernon ISD wrapped up the week of teacher professional development this morning with a Convocation for all district employees. Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward was the speaker for the Convocation. He presented how VISD can take the manifesto Phil Knight used to build his successful company, Nike, and apply it to build a successful school district.




Returning Vernon ISD students need to register every school year. If you haven't registered your child for the 2024-25 school year, please use the Skyward portal to do so. We are just 6 days away from the first day of school and it makes that first day run smoother if students have registered before they arrive on their campus to start the new school year. Freshmen please remember your VHS Orientation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, the day before school starts. Orientation will begin at 1 p.m. You will learn about our high school policies and procedures, and about our fun organizations and activities that you can be a part of. You will also receive your class schedule!! Make sure you're there -- 1 p.m., Tuesday, for Freshmen Orientation.


Today was Day 3 of 7 Professional Development Days for our Vernon ISD teachers and paraprofessionals as we prepare for the 2024-25 school year. Teachers became students today as they moved from classroom to classroom to attend sessions covering a variety of topics. Session topics included: Classroom Management for Elementary; Classroom Management for Secondary; Dyslexia; Enrichment for High Achievers; the Instructional Cycle; and Promethean Board/GoGuardian.








To maintain and keep our football and track facility in the best condition possible, the public will no longer have 24/7 access to the facility. This will take effect on Aug. 14. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please remember there is a walking trail at Roy Orbison Park and Allingham Park, as well as Wilbarger General Hospital.


We're glad our seniors are excited for the 2024-25 school year, but you cannot select and paint your parking space until next week.

Vernon ISD will be conducting a special election to fill the unexpired term of the Place 3 seat on our VISD School Board. Anyone interested in filing to run may pick up a candidate packet at the VISD Administrative Center between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The deadline to return a packet and file to be on the ballot is 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19. The start of the 2024-25 school year is just 7 days away!! We are excited to see all of our students at VHS! Below is information on class schedules. Starting Aug. 15, students may sign up for schedule changes. Counselors will meet with students requesting schedule changes, starting with upperclassmen, on Aug. 19.


Yesterday afternoon the Vernon Lady Lions hit the court for the first day of volleyball workouts. The Lady Lions worked on conditioning and on building a solid foundation for their passing, setting and hitting skills. The Lady Lions scrimmage Childress in Childress on Friday and City View in Wichita Falls on Saturday.









The Vernon Boys & Girls Club Back to School Bash is today!!! Head over to the Boys & Girls Club between 4 and 7 tonight to pick up school supplies and let the kiddos play some games and have some fun!


The VHS 2024 Yamparika Yearbook is here!!! Members of the Class of 2024, or their parents, can stop by the VHS office and pick up their yearbook. This year's sophomores, juniors and seniors will receive their yearbook next week during school.


IT'S HERE!!! The 2024 high school football season kicked off this morning with the first two-a-day workout!! Players are working out from 6:30 to 8:35 in the morning and then returning at 4:30 p.m. to lift weights, attend position meetings and go through walk-thrus. The Lions will put on the pads Friday morning and at Midnight the Lions will hold a Midnight Madness Practice at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium.











Members of our VHS cross country team began organized practice today as they begin preparing for the upcoming season.



Our VHS tennis team hit the court last week as they prepare for the new year and season. The Lions squared off against Hereford in dual match Saturday and came away with a 15-4 victory. They will host Borger and Pampa here Friday with matches starting at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
