The Lady Lions claimed one event championship in the running events of the District 7-3A Track & Field Meet which concluded Thursday in Holliday. Our Lions are home tonight for District 7-3A games against the Holliday Eagles. The JV baseball game will begin at 4 p.m., with the first pitch of the varsity game set for 7 p.m., at Jabe Brazzle Field. The Lions have their district open week next week before wrapping up their season with a two-game series against Bowie on April 21 and April 24. Good luck Lions!!

Our Lady Lions close out their 2026 softball season today, as they host the Holliday Lady Eagles in a District 7-3A game. The game will start at 5 p.m., at Ronda Havins Softball Field. Our softball seniors will be recognized on April 21, prior to the varsity baseball game. Good luck Lady Lions!!

This week is National Assistant Principal Week and Vernon ISD has some outstanding assistant principal at our campuses!! All of them are a great asset to their principal, and the staff and students on their campuses. They consistently go the extra mile, and Vernon ISD would just like them to know their work is noticed and greatly appreciated!

VHS lost electricity earlier this afternoon, but it is now back on.

The District 7-3A Track & Field Meet kicked off Monday with the field events, along with the running preliminaries. Here are a few pictures from the field events. The finals of the running events will be held tonight at Eagle Stadium in Holliday. The finals will begin at 5 p.m. The Vernon Lions are currently leading the team race in the Boys Division, while the Lady Lions are third in the Girls Division. Good luck to all those competing tonight!!

Due to severe weather concerns for Saturday, VHS administration has made the decision to move the 2026 VHS Prom from Avitia's to the VHS Cafeteria. The move not only provides an indoor storm shelter (if needed), but also more coverage in case it is raining when the students make their prom arrival.
Decorating for the prom will begin Friday afternoon after 2 p.m. If parents wish to come and help decorate the cafeteria before school is released, please remember you will need to check in at the school office and will need your driver's license.
On Saturday, students can start lining up for the annual Prom Arrival Promenade at 6 p.m., at the corner of Paradise and Yucca Lane, with all vehicles heading East on Paradise. Vehicles will turn right onto Yucca Lane and right into the horseshoe drive. After students make their arrival, the vehicle will need to be driven away. The vehicle can be parked in the South parking lot of the high school.
Parents and community residents are invited to watch the prom promenade and may park in the North parking lot. Those wishing to take a peek inside and get pictures may do so until 8 p.m. At that time all guests will be asked to leave.
A Prom King and Queen will be crowned at 10:45 p.m., and the prom will conclude at 11 p.m.

Yesterday, 13 of our FFA students competed In the Area IV CDE Contest held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. The students competed on 3 teams. The Entomology team of Aidan Hernandez, Aaron Clemente, Karson Rich, and Kenneth Cordero placed 17th, while the Floriculture team of Avery Conley, Arianna Mendoza, Presley Lehman, and Jacie Parkhill placed in the Top 30. Members of the Livestock Judging team were Kenzie Dobbs, Bentley Dobbs, Kirby Lehman, and Lyric Thompson. We're excited to see our FFA program growing and can't wait to see what the future brings for the program and our students!

Day 1 of the District 7-3A Track & Field Meet was held yesterday with the field events and running preliminaries being completed. Our VHS Key Club donated over 1,100 eggs to the Vernon Community-Wide Easter Egg Hunt that was held Saturday in downtown Vernon. This year, members of the Key Club have completed over 500 hours of community service across 20 different volunteer opportunities.

Yesterday, VMS & VHS PTO coordinated a flower bar to show their appreciation for the second-to-last six weeks! 🌸
A big thank you to Amanda Lehman with Texas Farm Bureau Insurance for donating the vases, and to Flower Boutique along with Brian & Karen Bayer for providing the beautiful flowers.

Here are our Vernon Lion medalists from the District 7-3A UIL Singles & Doubles Tournament held last week. We have two bracket champions, as Hunter Boatman is the Boys Singles district champ and the duo of Lily Beam and Will Castleberry is the Mixed Doubles district champs. We also took silver in two brackets -- Truett Schur in Boys Singles and the team of Sarah Black and Maddie McLennan in Girls Doubles. These six students will now move on to the Class 3A Region 1 UIL Singles & Doubles Tournament.
The duo of Amy McLennan and Thomas Gonzales grabbed a bronze medal in Mixed Doubles at the district tournament.

This morning Principal Dr. Cynthia Jackson, Assistant Principal Jeremy Reeder, and Counselor Sandra Kieschnick visited two classrooms to surprise the two recipients of our VHS Teacher of the Year and Staff Member of the Year honors for 2026. Selected as the Teacher of the Year was Libbi Garnett, while the Staff Member of the Year went to Hilda Moreno. The awards were voted on by VHS faculty and staff. Congratulations to Ms. Garnett and Mrs. Moreno!!
