To our Lady Lions volleyball team and VHS tennis team for picking up victories in district matches yesterday. On the tennis court, the Lions defeated Iowa Park, 15-4, in a battle of two of the top teams in the district. Vernon is now 2-0 in district play.
On the volleyball court, the Lady Lions battled and never backed down in capturing a hard-fought 17-25, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 17-15 victory over the City View Lady Mustangs. This was the district opener for volleyball.

This past week, students in Mr. Justin Stone's Principles of Agriculture class attempted to "buzz in first" when they competed in "FFA Jeopardy." Mr. Stone created the game to help students review FFA history for an upcoming exam. Students rotated at the buzzers, while another student did their best Alex Trebek impression for each round. Good luck to everyone on their exam!!
Our Lions tennis team will be traveling to Iowa Park this afternoon for a team tennis district showdown with the Hawks. The match will get underway at 4 p.m., at the Iowa Park High School Tennis Courts. Good luck Lions!!
Our Lady Lions open District 7-3A action at home tonight when they host the City View Lady Mustangs. Due to a recent law, school counselors, just like school nurses, must now have parental consent before providing routine counseling services to students. Our school counselors have a form we are asking all parents to fill out and return to their child's school. Students at Vernon Middle School and Vernon High School should have brought their form home yesterday (Monday), while students at Vernon Elementary and T.G. McCord Elementary will be bringing their form home today. Parents, PLEASE complete the form and return it to the school as soon as possible.
Our Lions will travel to Wichita Falls this Friday night for a showdown with the undefeated City View Mustangs. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Tickets must be purchased online at: https://www.cityview-isd.net/page/athletic-tickets
Our cross country team has competed in two events, one in Burkburnett and one in Wichita Falls so far this season. The Lions won the Boys Division at the Burkburnett Cross Country Jamboree and had four runners finish in the Top 15. The Lady Lions also had 2 finish in the Top 15 in the Girls' Division. Last Week, they competed in the Endurance House Meet in Wichita Falls. This week, they will travel to Guthrie for a meet on Wednesday.
Today's dress up theme for the pep rally was "Dynamic Duos" and there were plenty of examples of dynamic duos roaming the VHS halls today.

Our VHS tennis team opened their district team tennis season with an 18-1 victory over Bowie yesterday afternoon. They will be squaring off against Borger at home Saturday morning in a non-district match, and then traveling to Wichita Falls in afternoon for a match against Peaster. Tennis action will begin at 9 a.m., tomorrow, at the Ruben Vargas Tennis Complex.
Texas Farm Bureau Insurance presented game balls to 3 Vernon Lions for their performance in last week's 30-7 victory over Burkburnett. Receiving the game balls were: Mason Ballard, Special Teams MVP; Ty Scott, Offensive MVP; and Adrain Felton, Defensive MVP. Congratulations guys and thank you to Texas Farm Bureau Insurance!

Tomorrow is our first Early Release Day of the 2025-26 school year. Here are the early release time for each campus. Please note lunch is provided at VHS after the last bell rings -- from 12:18 p.m. to 12:48 p.m. -- and buses do not run at VHS until 12:48 p.m.

The clinic is open to all kindergarten thru 5th grade students. The fee for the clinic is $40 and that includes a t-shirt.

A new state law now requires schools to have written parental consent before providing some non-emergency health care services to students. VISD's school nurses want to provide students with the health care they need -- when they need it -- but must also stay in compliance with state law. Consent forms will be sent home with students this week. We urge parents to review and complete the consent forms and bring the forms back to your child's school.

Senior pictures for our Class of 2026 is set for this Thursday, Sept. 4. Seniors will be called out of class 10 at a time. Seniors who are not in school on Thursday, will have the opportunity to have their senior pictures made Friday. Yearbook picture day for our remaining classes is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25.
