Some of our VES staff members and students joined the fun for today's circus theme to "Make the Stangs Crazy!" There were elephants, clowns, a ringmaster, and some acrobats.
Registration is now open for the Boys & Girls Club Basketball League for kindergarten thru 2nd grade students. The deadline to register is Sept. 22.

Ever want to "feel like a superhero?" Well, Thursday is your chance!! Vernon Elementary will be hosting an Our Blood Institute Blood Drive from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Donors will receive a limited-edition glow-in-the-dark "Wicked" t-shirt. Our Blood Institute provides blood to all the area hospitals, including Wilbarger General. One donation saves up to three lives, and those lives could be a neighbor, a friend or a family member!! Make plans to donate Thursday!! Please take a moment to give a gift that costs you nothing, but can save lives!!
Due to a recent law, school counselors, just like school nurses, must now have parental consent before providing routine counseling services to students. Our school counselors have a form we are asking all parents to fill out and return to their child's school. Students at Vernon Middle School and Vernon High School should have brought their form home yesterday (Monday), while students at Vernon Elementary and T.G. McCord Elementary will be bringing their form home today. Parents, PLEASE complete the form and return it to the school as soon as possible.
It was a packed house in the VES cafeteria this morning for our Grandfriends Day, with grandparents and grandfriends joining their youngsters for breakfast. We saw plenty of smiles -- from adults and students alike -- around the room!!!
Earning our VES Student of the Week honors for last week are: 2nd Grade -- Jakiya Chamberland; 3rd Grade -- Xavier Valtierra; 4th Grade -- Conner Baskerville; and 5th Grade -- Sophie Adams. Congratulations!! Keep up the awesome job!!!
Fifth grade students in Mrs. Craighead and Ms. White's sciences classes have been learning about physical states of matter. To make the lesson more engaging, the teachers had the students make root beer floats. As the root beer combined with the ice cream, students were able to observe the solid, liquid, and gas states all in one activity. They could clearly see how the ice cream represented a solid, the root beer as a liquid, and the bubbles forming a gas. This hands-on experiment not only made learning fun but also helped the students connect what they've studied in class to a real-life example they could see, touch, and taste, which helps reinforce their understanding of physical states in a memorable way.
We are looking forward to having the grandparents and grandfriends of our students on our campus tomorrow morning as they enjoy breakfast with their youngster.
Tomorrow is our first Early Release Day of the 2025-26 school year. Here are the early release time for each campus. Please note lunch is provided at VHS after the last bell rings -- from 12:18 p.m. to 12:48 p.m. -- and buses do not run at VHS until 12:48 p.m.

The clinic is open to all kindergarten thru 5th grade students. The fee for the clinic is $40 and that includes a t-shirt.

Grandparents Day is this Sunday, and Vernon Elementary will be celebrating the very next day -- Monday, Sept. 8! Grandparents and special grandfriends of our students are invited to come and eat breakfast with their grandchild. Join us starting at 7 a.m. and enjoy breakfast with your little one.

A new state law now requires schools to have written parental consent before providing some non-emergency health care services to students. VISD's school nurses want to provide students with the health care they need -- when they need it -- but must also stay in compliance with state law. Consent forms will be sent home with students this week. We urge parents to review and complete the consent forms and bring the forms back to your child's school.

Last week, second grade completed Unit One of their RLA curriculum: "Fairy Tales and Tall Tales." In one of the tall tales, "Paul Bunyan," it told the story of Sourdough Sam cooking giant flapjacks in the world's biggest frying pan for Paul Bunyan. On Friday, Mrs. Robyn Hamm's class cooked miniature pancakes and discussed the antonyms of giant, colossal, enormous, big being small, miniature, tiny, and small.
There has been a change to the VISD 2025-26 school calendar. Due to a scheduling conflict for the Prosper football stadium, the Lions' football game scheduled for Friday, Sept. 19, in Prosper has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 18. The district had an early release scheduled for that Friday and it has now been moved to Thursday, to coincide with the game change. Friday, Sept. 19, will now be a regular, full school day.
All VISD students, teachers and staff are enjoying this Monday Labor Day holiday, but we will be back in school tomorrow and we will be in a new month, as today is September 1. A new month means a new school cafeteria menu! Check out the September cafeteria menu below.
