Emergent Bilingual teacher Manuel Perez put a video together featuring our VES EB students and an activity students did at the beginning of the year. During the "All About Me" activity, students shared what being bilingual means to them personally. On the video the students talk about their goals, the struggles they face, and ways teacher can support their growth in the classroom. Mr. Perez said the video captures the students' voices, honesty, and courage as they express their journeys in their own words. He added we often don't truly know what our EB students are feeling, thinking, or experiencing until we take the time to hear it directly from them. At Monday evening's VISD Board of Trustees meeting four VES students in the Emergent Bilingual (EB) program introduced a video that was made by Mr. Manuel Perez and students in his EB classes. Speaking at the board meeting were Simon Reyes, Aidee Perez-Velasco, Joanna Blut, and Eh Htoo. The students were recognized and received a certificate and VISD coin from Interim Supt. Dr. Blaise Boswell. Dr. Boswell also recognized Mr. Perez, who went through VISD's "Grow Our Own" teacher program and recently became a certified teacher.

On Tuesday, the VES PTO treated our teachers and staff to loaded drinks! ☕🥤 We are so thankful for the incredible parents and PTO members who go above and beyond to show appreciation for our staff. Your support and kindness make such a difference, and we are truly grateful!

Last night, Vernon ISD trustees named Dr. Blaise Boswell as the lone finalist for the VISD Superintendent position. Dr. Boswell has been serving as the interim superintendent for the last three months, and will officially become the VISD Supt. after the state mandated 21-day waiting period. Wishing all of our students and their families, along with our administrators, teachers and staff a Happy Valentine's Day!!

This is a 3-day weekend for Vernon ISD students as they are out of school on Monday, Feb. 16. Monday is a scheduled Professional Development day for VISD teachers and staff. Students will return to join their teachers in the classroom on Tuesday.

Earlier this year, our VES Student Council held a blanket and sock drive for a local nursing home. On Wednesday, the students delivered the 150 blankets and 75 pairs of socks to residents at Advance Rehab and Healthcare of Vernon. The students had a great time delivering the items and the residents were so happy to see the kids. A contest was held for the classes that collected the most items. Those winning classes were: 2nd Grade -- Mrs. Wendler; 3rd Grade -- Ms. Woods; 4th Grade -- Mrs. Sandoval; and 5th Grade -- Mrs. Miller. The prize for these classes is a popcorn party!!

Due to the City of Vernon being under a Water Boil Order, we are cancelling school Monday. We will be purchasing pallets of water tomorrow and setting up alternate hand-washing stations at all campuses. We will have school on our regular schedule on Tuesday.
If the Water Boil Order is still in place on Tuesday, all students will receive a bottle of water in the morning and another bottle of water at lunch.

A few weeks ago our fourth grade English Language Arts classes concluded Unit 5 in Bluebonnet Learning which included The American Revolution. Mrs. Inman's class celebrated competing the unit with a revolution-themed tea party. Some students dressed up in costumes depicting the late 1700s, and Mrs. Inman provided decorative teacups, plates, tablecloths, cookies, tea bags and sugar cubes. Each student received their own teacup and plate, and Mrs. Inman demonstrated proper tea etiquette, including how to hold a teacup and steep a tea bag before serving the tea. Students were also given two or three sugar cubes to sweeten their team. The tea party served as a meaningful way to reinforce the knowledge and understanding students gained through reading and studying the American Revolution.
