We welcomed our 6th grade students to campus this morning for their campus orientation. The students were divided into 3 groups and rotated between learning about Lion Bucks and incentive trips; receiving their class schedule and learning how to open their locker; and listening as the school policies on the dress code, cell phones and other issues were explained.










Tomorrow, Vernon ISD will be holding an in-person enrollment/registration day for all grades in the cafeteria at Vernon Elementary School. Please use the South door -- A4 -- to enter the building. The in-person enrollment/registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and continue until 12:30 p.m. It will resume at 1:30 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m.

Several parents attended the morning session of Parent Orientation at Vernon Middle School today. In breakout groups, the parents learned about VMS rules and policies students have to follow; the Rooms app; and how Lions Bucks are used at VMS. An evening session will begin at 6 p.m., tonight, at VMS. Parents of 6th grade students and students new to VMS are especially encouraged to attend the meeting.

Vernon ISD's parent portal -- Skyward -- will be locked down most of today while the district rolls students to their appropriate grade level for the 2025-26 school year. Skyward should be available for online registration/enrollment after 4 p.m. today. We apologize for any inconvenience. We're a week away from the start of the 2025 Lady Lions volleyball season, with two-a-days getting underway Friday, Aug. 1. We're also a week away from a parent meeting for all volleyball players -- high school and middle school. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 31, at D.O. Fulton Gym. Lady Lions Head Coach Amber Hall will go over important information and answer questions.

Due to Senate Bill 401, school districts across the state have been forced to make a decision on whether or not to allow homeschool students who live in their district to participate in UIL events. On Monday night, Vernon ISD trustees voted 4-3 to allow homeschool students to participate in UIL activities.

The Vernon Lion Football Camp wrapped up this morning. Earning Camper of the Day honors were Samuel Reeder, Kale Martinez, Karter Gee, Tyler Holmes, Isaiah Boyd, William McArthur, and Tyler Bohannon.


Day 2 of the Vernon Lions Football Camp was another fun one today. Receiving Campers of the Day honors were Wyatt Boatman, Elijah Lewis, Jace Hennessee, Luke Parmer, Jadarious Scales and Xaven Leija. The camp wraps up tomorrow morning.

Six young men were named "Campers of the Day" for Day 1 of the Vernon Lion Football Camp. Receiving the honor were Lux Limon, Asher Moore, Brazos Eakin, Luke Luster, RJ Villarreal, and Damien Green. The camp continues Tuesday and Wednesday morning at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium.

Don't forget!! The Boys & Girls Club of Vernon's Back To School Bash is happening Tuesday, Aug. 5!!! School supplies will be handed out and there will also be food vendors, fun games, entertainment and more!! Mark your calendar!!

Last week our VMS Cheerleaders attended a UCA Cheer Camp at Midwestern State University and earned several daily and overall awards. Mascot Lezah Lee received the "Mascot Spirit Stick" all 3 days of the camp, and picked up the Mascot "Tradition" Plaque. She also earned a Red "Excellent" Ribbon and a Blue "Superior" Ribbon for the Mascot Field Walk.
The cheerleaders claimed Gold "Superior" Ribbons and first place trophies for Camp Routine and for Overall Spirit, along with earning the Cheer Spirit Stick all three days of the camp. They also received Blue "Superior" Ribbons for Sideline and Cheer and for Camp Routine. All-American Cheerleader Recipients were Kynsleigh Hamm, Payzlee Brannon, and Brynlee Disbrow, while Pin-It-Forward Recipients were Praylee Patterson and Lezah Hall.
VMS cheerleaders for the 2025-26 school year are Ashlynn Torres, Blair Jasso, Bryn Gardner, Brynlee Disbrow, Isabella Brahier, Kynsleigh Hamm, Maribel Lagunas, Paw Say, Payzlee Brannon, Praylee Patterson, Sophia Trejo, Trinity Villarreal, and mascot Lezah Lee.
Sponsor and coach is Robyn Hamm. She said the girls also received another special recognition, as cafeteria staff at MSU told her the VMS squad was the most respectful squad in attendance!!
