Here's a weekly "What's Happening at VMS" update spearheaded by 8th grader Blake Haney.

It was a fun morning for approximately 215 VMS students as they were treated to a movie at the Plaza Theater for having perfect attendance for the 1st Six Weeks. Approximately 82 6th Graders, 66 7th Graders and 67 8th Graders enjoyed the movie "Camp Hideout." The district provided the ticket for the movie, with the students purchasing their own snacks.

The VMS Success Rally for the 1st six weeks was held Thursday afternoon in the gym. Students who made the AB and A Honor Rolls for each grade received certificates, and prize drawings were held from among the students who made the honor rolls in each grade.

When the report was ran to see which students qualified for the 1st Six Weeks Perfect Attendance incentive trip, some students were left off the list due to an error where absences for athletics were counted against the students. This error has been corrected and notifications to those who were affected have been sent out.

Please remember tomorrow is an Early Release Friday. Also, most campuses are conducting parent/teacher conferences tomorrow afternoon and early evening.

VMS students gathered at the flagpole this morning for See You At The Pole.

To all my Vernon Family:
What a night Friday was. Our Vernon Lions likely put together their best performance of the year against the Burkburnett Bulldogs with a dominating performance. Winning will always be important to me yet how we approach and play the game matters significantly to me as well. Our kids showed up and played a very clean and disciplined game last night that reflects well on those kids and this entire community.
Perhaps the real story of last night is with the band kids. They too submitted their best performance of the year. Due to lack of time remaining at halftime, I personally went to the band kids and shared with them the thought of us establishing a 5th quarter after the game for them to play. I was initially concerned with them not having fan support but a simple request for the football team, the cheerleaders, the students, and for the fans to remain after the contest to support them was easily obliged. This, I am learning is typical Vernon and I am so proud to be part of this community.
I am very much aware of the disappointment of the individuals watching the stream from home not being able to watch the 5th quarter due to the stream being shut off. The termination of the stream is set before the game to stop when the clock hits 0:00. We will work to determine if there is a way around that as the 5th quarter had some unintended benefits. This however, should not diminish the obvious hard work of the kids to add so much diversity to their show since the last time they played. Much like the Colorado Buffaloes are now saying: We coming too!!!!

Reporting Student Absences - Important Information for Parents
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. To help us achieve this goal, it’s crucial that we are informed of any student absences promptly.

Gifted and Talented students in the 7th and 8th grade are working together on a project, which involves solving a murder mystery. Gifted & Talented sponsor Christina Mathes said the students have been divided into groups with the groups working on the same murder mystery. They have to take the facts and clues they've been given and put them together to nab the murderer.
