soil water poster winners

Two Vernon Elementary School second graders have advanced to the state competition in the Texas Soil and Water Conservation annual poster contest, and six other VES students placed in the local poster contest.

Ainsley McIntosh captured first place in the Texas Conservation Awards Program, sponsored by the Wilbarger Soil & Water Conservation District #537, contest for the Kindergarten thru 2nd Grade Division, and followed that up by also taking first at the Area level. Her classmate, Elexia Leija, finished second in the local contest and third at the Area level, which also qualified her to compete at the state level.

Rounding out the top four places in the Kindergarten thru 2nd Grade Division for the WSWCD were Charlotte Crosthwait, third place, and Luciana Riojas, fourth place.

In the 3rd thru 6th Grade Division, VES student Mathew Servin claimed first place at the local level, while Hser Soe was second, Paisley Marsh was third, and Charley Booth finished fourth.

The theme of the poster contest was “May the Forest be with You, Always.” The students’ posters were based on their idea on how to protect and conserve forests.

Other sponsors for the contest included the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, and the Association of Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
